Electro-Magnetic (EM) SAGD Technology

AOS is testing new EM technologies at the Clearwater Project. It makes use of an EM loop running along the SAGD well pairs that will electro-magnetically heat and therefore soften the bitumen. That will help the bitumen flow more easily towards the production wells once the steam and diluent get there.

The use of EM technology, if successful, could lower the SOR all the way down to 1.0:1. This would multiply the benefits of a reduced SOR discussed on this page, including potentially further reducing the size of the Phase II commercial surface facilities.
