Safeguarding Our Environment

The Clearwater Project will include comprehensive protection for the air, water, land, ecosystem and aesthetic values. As a SAGD project, it means no tailings ponds, no areas of open toxic water, and only a small drainage pond for storm water runoff (natural rain and melted snow – no fluids from inside the reservoir).

Our high environmental performance standards result from a combination of the Clearwater Project’s design, which requires less steam, and special features and technologies that enable the project to exceed provincial regulatory standards.
